Meet Dexter, a Bernedoodle training to serve as a therapy and comfort dog with the Tiverton Fire Department in Tiverton, Rhode Island.

With an important job ahead of him, Dexter is preparing to support the firefighters and first responders who serve the Tiverton community every day. Dexter joined the Tiverton Fire Department in 2026 as a young Bernedoodle and quickly earned an unofficial but fitting title: “Chief Morale Officer.”

His primary mission is an important one—supporting the people who spend their careers helping others.

Firefighters and other first responders routinely encounter stressful, unpredictable, and emotionally challenging situations.
